MBC Radio Three in the offing

Malawians should expect another radio station from State-run Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) anytime soon.

This will be another legacy for the ever-strategic MBC Chief Executive Officer, Bright Malopa, whose tenure at the State-run media institution has been characterised by forward-looking strategies.

It is under Malopa that the merger between Malawi Television (TVM) and MBC Radio One and Two came to fruition, a development that saw the name TVM go with the rains of yesterday as the new institution was aptly named MBC Television and Radio, respectively.

Some top managers have also lost their jobs in the process, despite earlier assurances that nobody would face the chop. Others have also risen in the wake of the changes, going further up the ground, but lower than the rain clouds.

Malopa is now back in the picture, this time with plans to establish MBC Radio Two.

The tentative plans have been drawn.

Zachimalawi can reveal that the MBC Radio Three will be based in Malawi's Capital City, Lilongwe, which is also the seat of government.

Veteran broadcaster Geoffrey Kazembe has been earmarked for the post of Station Manager, and is expected to join Timpuza Mwansambo in that position.

This means that Zodiak Broadcasting Station, with its abode in Lilongwe, will have a tough visitor next door.

This is likely to turn the Centre Region into an epicentre of information battles, necessary for people to make informed decisions.
