Bicycle ambulances: no new phenomenon

Bicycle ambulances, it seems, have generated intense interest over the past two weeks- the most recent example being when Malawian Members of Parliament samples the same this week.

However, the story of these miracle transport modes is not new; in the area of Traditional Authority Nkumba in Mangochi, community members have saved the lives of over 30, 000 pregnant women over the past ten years, thanks to the Centre for Reproductive Health, a department at the College of Medicine.
It all started when Dr. Agness Chimbiri was spearheading the department; now, with Dr. Frank Taulo, the work continues.
Mangochi is an annexe district for the Centre.
