Lesbians in Malawi have expressed worry over the country’s laws that prohibit same sex marriages.
The concern was made in Blantyre recently at the Malawi Gay Rights Movement meting that also elected new office bearers for the net work following the death of its leader early this year.
One of the lesbians who asked only to be mentioned by her first name, Ruth, said that the Malawi government has to recognize the rights of gays as sexual orientation was an inborn thing.
“One does not learn to be lesbian or homo sexual he or she is born with it and the government needs to soften up laws so that people that are having same sex affairs can open up,” she said.
The same sex marriage activist said while at the moment their movement was working under ground, they were trying to use all the best means possible to influence government change its position on same sex marriages policies.
“Gays are just like any member of the society they are productive and can be made into good use. By denying them regal protection the society is being very unfair as these people are not accessing services that they reqire,”she said.
The meeting elected Moses Blackthorn at its new leader and it has since revealed that they are fundraising for a familiasation tour to some of the countries where homosexuality is legal.
