Elderly Gay Man Stoned to Death in Pa. A young Pennsylvania man who claims a gay senior made unwanted sexual advances toward him said the Bible instructed him to beat the victim to death with a sock full of rocks.According to the New York Daily News, “John Joe Thomas of Upper Darby told police he beat Murray Seidman using a sock that was stuffed with rocks because he read in the Old Testament that homosexuals should be stoned to death.” Police said the 70-year-old Seidman, a laundry worker at the local hospital, was hit in the head about 10 times. Thomas, 28, was the sole beneficiary of the victim’s will, although the relationship between the men is unknown. Seidman was dead for at least five days before police found him, the Daily News reports. Prof. Peter Mutharika Escapes Treason Charges

Peter- billed as the next in line for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Presidency and, thus, Malawi's possible-next president- has been making public claims on state-run Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Television equating state machinery to his own property despite the fact that Malawians elected his elder brother, Bingu, as the country's only legitimate president.
Peter has, for the past four weeks, referred to the Malawi government as 'my government' three times, and MBC TV repeated his footage without any qualms, raising fears that Malawi is being headed by two people- one, legitimate, and the other flaudulently- all this happening in broad daylight.
For instance, Peter saiud after handing over a school block in Mulanje Central Constituency that "my government will ensure that all schools across the country have basic amenities, including good class rooms and desks. Tge girl child suffers without these amenities".
Three weeks ago, Peter was at it again, telling people in Zomba that "My government will not leave you alone".
Now, people are wondering about the seat of Peter's government, as Capital Hill remains the seat of Bingu and his cabinet ministers. Many are also questioning whether Peter has his own cabinet since he claims to own a government.
However, analysts believe that Peter's sentiments may be part of Bingu campaign to sell his younger brother to the electorate well before official opening of the campaign period.
President Mutharika has come under a spate of criticism for campioning human rights abuses, among them stifling of the right to demonstrate, muzzling of intellectual freedom as seen by the current stand-off between University lecturers (notably Chancellor College, who have been on a sit-in for close to three weeks now; and the Malawi Polytechnic, having joined the sit-in this week), among others.
Mutharika's government has also been 'distributing' sedition charges as if it were distributing targeted input fertiliser and seeds to desperate farmers.
However, Peter is clearly being treated with kids' gloves, as he goes about referring to Bingu's government as 'my government'.
It is not clear whether Peter will be charged for running a 'parallel' government he refers to as 'my government' when his elder brother is already running a legitimate government.

Peter- billed as the next in line for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Presidency and, thus, Malawi's possible-next president- has been making public claims on state-run Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Television equating state machinery to his own property despite the fact that Malawians elected his elder brother, Bingu, as the country's only legitimate president.
Peter has, for the past four weeks, referred to the Malawi government as 'my government' three times, and MBC TV repeated his footage without any qualms, raising fears that Malawi is being headed by two people- one, legitimate, and the other flaudulently- all this happening in broad daylight.
For instance, Peter saiud after handing over a school block in Mulanje Central Constituency that "my government will ensure that all schools across the country have basic amenities, including good class rooms and desks. Tge girl child suffers without these amenities".
Three weeks ago, Peter was at it again, telling people in Zomba that "My government will not leave you alone".
Now, people are wondering about the seat of Peter's government, as Capital Hill remains the seat of Bingu and his cabinet ministers. Many are also questioning whether Peter has his own cabinet since he claims to own a government.
However, analysts believe that Peter's sentiments may be part of Bingu campaign to sell his younger brother to the electorate well before official opening of the campaign period.
President Mutharika has come under a spate of criticism for campioning human rights abuses, among them stifling of the right to demonstrate, muzzling of intellectual freedom as seen by the current stand-off between University lecturers (notably Chancellor College, who have been on a sit-in for close to three weeks now; and the Malawi Polytechnic, having joined the sit-in this week), among others.
Mutharika's government has also been 'distributing' sedition charges as if it were distributing targeted input fertiliser and seeds to desperate farmers.
However, Peter is clearly being treated with kids' gloves, as he goes about referring to Bingu's government as 'my government'.
It is not clear whether Peter will be charged for running a 'parallel' government he refers to as 'my government' when his elder brother is already running a legitimate government.

Fear has gripped the family following the attack,. and entry requirements to Mwakasungula's house are more strict than ever before.
Zachimalawi was previleged to visit Mwakasungula's house from 3:00 pm to around 04:20pm, and witnessed for itself how Malawi, as a country, is slowly going to the dogs as government turns against its own citizens to inflict terror among the general population.
Mwakasungula is being targeted for advocating human rights, and questioning 'questionable' government decisions such as the paying of millions in Kwacha to First Lady Callista Mutharika for the sole reason that she married a man who became Malawi's President- all in the guise of her Safe Motherhood advocate role.
Malawians are raising so many questions. These include: If the President can decide to pay his wife over K1 million monthly, how much does he (the President himself) receive at the end of the month? Are we not cheating ourselves to believe that Mutharika received K45, 000 he claims to receive?
If the Vice President, Joyce Banda, receives K800, 000 monthly, are we honest with ourselves to believe that the President (the boss) receives peanuts (K45, 000)?
When Mwakasungula questioned decisions such as these, the DPP government automatically ear-marked him as a target.
Now the party, through Kumtsaila, is purpoting that Mwakasungula 'staged' the attack to his own office.
This claim, as Zachimalawi discovered after visiting Mwakasungula's home today, is outrageous, malicious, and twadleful.
Mwakasungula's family is worried; Mwakasungula himself cannot walk freely now; and many other things are happening in the country we so much love.
It is sad.
On a lighter note, Zachimalawi was also previleged- for the first time- to come face-to-face with Jumani Johanneson (Former President, Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda's self-proclaimed son) at Mwakasungula's house.
Jumani is a down-to-earth individual. He is very open, too. And kind.
He is Malawian. At least the traits that make one purely Malawian.
Zachimalawi awaits, with abated breath, the long-awaited Deoxyribonucleic Acid to settle the matter of hids partenity once and for all.
The many sad, political developments taking place in our country have shifted our focus from this interesting issue, as living in Malawi becomes more risky under Mutharika's regime.
Mutharika told a political rally at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Sunday that he needed more action from them, in terms of "answering my critics on my behalf: you always keep quiet when they go on the offensive".
Already, observers and political parties- notably the Malawi Congress Party and United Democratic Front- have condemned Mutharika for uttering such remarks, fearing- like many Malawians- the return of notorious political party youth groupings. These groupings have a reputation of brutality and torture.
Many people are asking: thither Malawi democracy?
Zachimalawi asks: thither human rights?
What with Mutharika's sentiments that peaceful demonstrators should be paying a 'damage-surity' fee of not less than K3 million to quarantee against possible property (read, collateral) damage.
Zachimalawi condemns this statement, and President Bingu wa Mutharika, in strongest terms.
This will not be allowed to happen in Malawi, Sir.
Period!
But Information and Civic Education Minister, Symon Vuwa-Kaunda, told Zachimalawi today evening that people have misinterpreted Mutharika's sentiments.
"His Excellency the State President, Ngwazi Professor Bingu wa Mutharika is a peaceful man; he wants only the best for this country. He simply wants to defend development," said Vuwa-Kaunda.
Bintony Kutsaila: CHRR staged offices' attack
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) General Secretary, Bintony Kutsaila, tells Zachimalawi that Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR) Executive Director, Undule Mwakasungula, staged the purpoted attacks on his office.
Kutsaila told Zachimalawi in Lilongwe, minutes after addressing a Press Conference at which he runged left and right into CHRR, that Mwakasungula "planned and executed " the attacks on CHRR offices, during which windows were broken into pieces, in order to gain political mileage.
Zachimalawi visited CHRR offices today around 01:30 pm and found the window that was broken by thugs who attacked the offices last week still unrepaired.
Kutsaila said DPP was not happy with CHRR's behaviour, as "it will portlay our good political party, and President Bingu wa Mutharika's government as perpetrators of human rights abuses when the truth is that Mwakasungula staged the attacks," said Kutsaila.
Mwakasungula's phone was just ringing, however, when Zachimalawi attempted to call him for his side of the story.

Poor Airtel service in Chigwirizano
People of Chigwirizano in Lilongwe have been failing to communicate and recharge airtime using the Airtel network for 24 hours now, crippling the capability of those with only one mobile service provider.
To make matters worse, Airtel's call centre 'died' a long time ago, as the company prefers the use of customer service, or relationship, centres.
This has, so far, proved a failed strategy as these centres are very far away from Malawi's rural communities.

Curing lesbianism with rape?
Several weeks ago, survivors of "corrective rape" -- a heinous practice in South Africa where lesbians are raped under the guise of "curing" them -- started a petition on Change.org to ask the Minister of Justice to declare corrective rape a hate crime.
It has since become the largest-ever petition on Change.org, and the Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Justice has repeatedly contacted us to complain that they are overwhelmed with the messages coming from every part of South Africa and every corner of the globe. But the minister still refuses to meet with the activists who started the campaign -- Ndumi Funda and the women of the non-profit Lulekisizwe.

"Corrective Rape" is a term used to describe when a man rapes a lesbian with the aim of 'turning' her heterosexual!
This heinous crime is prolific in South Africa, especially in the ‘townships.’
Most of the victims are tortured, grievously assaulted and sometimes murdered! They are also prone to getting HIV/AIDS from the assault, and many of them commit suicide as a result of the ‘corrective rape’!
The South African government and justice system are failing the victims of Corrective Rape by letting the perpetrators out on ridiculously low bail, and taking literally years to bring the court-cases to a conclusion. In the meantime the victims have to live with seeing and being harassed and threatened by their rapists every day, as do those who help the victims!
In the last 10 years:
*31 lesbian women have been murdered because of their sexuality
*More than 10 lesbians a week are raped or gang raped in Cape Town alone
*150 women are raped every day in South Africa
*For every 25 men accused of rape in South Africa, 24 walk free

Police, Ndirande Residents in Running Battles
What started as a mere scuffle between over-zealous Police officers and people who went to Kamuzu Stadium to be party to President Bingu wa Mutharika's rally ended up in disaster for Ndirande residents.
Police officers chased, and manhandled, some patrons who wanted to see musician-cum politician Joseph Tembo perform. First, it was electricity that went off, and then the police officers descended on people, beating some up with battle sticks.
This prompted irate people to start stoning Police officers in running battles that spilled out of Kamuzu Stadium. Live bullets were even shot in the air, resulting into minor injuries as people scrambled for the main stadium gate.
Two people were arrested on the spot, but this did not go down well with Ndirande residents- who went about smashing private and police vehicles.
By 6 am yesterday, 997 police officers were still patroling Ndirande streets, as they were afraid of people running amok, and descending on Ndirande People's Trading Centre shop, one of the institutions that has been a victim of police/residents scuffles in the past.
All these things were happening some 20 minutes after Mutharika left the stadium. Mutharika asked Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) followers to take on his critics head-on, yet another indication of his growing distaste of constructive criticism.

ANALYSING WALT WHITMAN ROSTOW AND KARL HEINRICH MARX’S APPROACHES TO HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
This is an analytical view on Walt Whitman Rostow’s and Karl Heinrich Marx’s approaches to human development. The presentation explains the meaning of the two economic models: capitalism and communism. It specifically highlights the differences in the aforementioned approaches. Furthermore, the paper will also look at the common elements of the two economic models
Lavern Thomas in the book of The Study of Human Relationships explains that in Capitalism, the factors of production are owned by individuals rather than by the government and that economic activities are regulated by the forces of profit and completion. He further explains that on the other hand, in communism, the factors of production are owned by the government which regulates all economic activities.
As such there is a difference between Karl Heinrich Marx and Walt Whitman Rostow’s approach to human development based on models mentioned. Marx advocates for an equal wealth distribution (communism) society while Rostow’s approach centres on free enterprise (capitalism) system in which industry is privately owned.
The difference does not come as a surprise on two grounds: The first factor is that the two individuals developed their theories and models at two distinct periods. Marx developed his between 1818 and 1883, while Rostow developed the Rostovian Take-Off model (of Economic Growth), also known as Rostow’s Stages of Growth, between 1916 and 2003.
The second ground is that Rostow’s ‘Non-Communist Manifesto’ is a direct response to Marx’s ‘The Communist Manifesto’- first published on February 21, 1848. It is apparent, therefore, that these two individuals’ line of thought was meant to be different.
For instance, ‘Rostow’s Stages of Growth’ model follows a different route from that of Marx. The first difference lies in its structural approach to economic growth, in that it clearly sets out a number of distinctive stages that an economy must follow to influence sustainable, positive human development.
Rostow asserts that countries go through five stages of economic growth, and that a number of conditions are likely to occur, in terms of investment, consumption and social trends.
These five stages are: Traditional society; Transitional, also referred to as Preconditions for take off; Take off; Drive to maturity, and; (Age of) High mass consumption.
The first stage, which is Traditional Society, is marked by a structure that is developed within limited production functions, with agriculture as the most dominant industry or sector. Apart from long-held views that spirits and gods play a central role in human development affairs, the economy is dominated by subsistence activity as (agriculture) output is wholly consumed by producers other than traded. Barter, the exchange of goods with goods, is also another key feature at this stage.
At the transitional stage, also called Pre-conditions for take off, people start producing more, and specialisation takes place. Transport infrastructure also emerges as a way of supporting trade, and external trade also occurs, though it mainly focuses on primary products.
The third stage is Take off. Rostow asserts that, at this stage, industrialisation increases, as workers move away from the agriculture sector to the manufacturing sector. Growth is concentrated in a few regions of a country, and one (or two) manufacturing industry player begins to dominate. Another common feature is that investment hovers above 10 per cent of Gross National Product (GNP).
As the economy begins to diversify into new areas, and technological innovations create a diverse range of investment opportunities, a country is said to have reached the fourth stage, named Drive to maturity. At this stage, the economy produces a wide variety of goods and services, a development that reduces appetite for, and thus reliance on, imports.
The last stage in Rostow’s Stages of Growth model is (the age of) High mass consumption, where an economy embraces mass consumption as consumers’ buying power improves dramatically and consumer durable industries develop. The service sector becomes increasingly dominant, and development demands substantial capital investments. At this stage, people are so rich (as per capita income increases) and do not even care where food is coming from; what matters is the buying power that becomes common place.
The bottom line is that Rostow’s Stages of Growth model focuses on economic modernisation, at the expense of other relatively important factors such as social, cultural, religious developments. This goes against the fact that poverty is relative, and that the definition of positive human development varies from country to country, as it is relative.
Marx, on the other hand, also employs the use of structure in his ‘Communist Manifesto’ – only that he concludes that society structure (which he blames for influencing the emergence of unequal social classes) has transformed the history of humankind into a story of class struggles.
Marx asserts that, other than influencing human development, the emergence of these social classes has, instead, alienated society as people with the sources of capital (the bourgeois)exploit those who have the source of production (workers), a trend that perpetuates poverty and hinders over-all human development as money is concentrated in the hands of a few.
The Communist Manifesto advocates that the only way to influence positive human development is, not only to study the world and human affairs, but change it; and he goes further to suggest that this change can only manifest if workers (the proletariat) rise against the bourgeois and create a stateless, classless society he christens Pure Communism.
In other words, The Communist Manifesto, denounces capitalism (not a strange development since Karl Marx was born in a capitalist society in Germany, and rebelled against the same- having analysed its impact on over-all human development), and describes it as the source of all economic upheaval in society, and closely links it to the proliferation of poverty.
Marx further asserts that, where there is equal distribution of worth, democracy (which he equates to ‘dictatorship of the proletariat), respect for human rights and a fair society are likely to develop since few individuals will no longer have exclusive rights to the means of capital and exchange- features he describes as the ‘foundation’ on which the bourgeoisie built themselves up.
Another distinct factor about Marx arguments is the need for a systematic understanding of social-economic change, other than generalising that all countries go through five fixed stages of economic modernisation and growth. His main point is that sustainable social-economic change (and, therefore, human development) is only possible through organised revolutionary action.
In conclusion, both Marx and Rostow’s arguments centre on economic factors as the main factor affecting human development. Both seem to suggest that changes in economic variables are the mirror to human development, and that any occasioning changes have trickledown effects on, among other factors, social, cultural development.
Both models also have their loopholes. Rostow has, for instance, been criticised for advocating Western models of economic development, which leads into a ‘One-cap-fits-all’ strategy that may work for developed countries, and not for Least Developed Countries. Rostow also fails to disclose underlying factors of economic change. No wonder that some countries that adopted the model started with false starts, only to get back to Ground-Zero.
Marx, on the other hand, is also advocating for a ‘One-cap-fits-all’ strategy as he foresaw all world where communism would be the order of the day, despite the long-held observation that what economic models that work in one economy may not necessary be the best option for another. The other factor is that his ‘Non-Communist Manifesto’ encourages the dominance of a few industry players, all of which government-owned.
This leads into cases of poor service delivery as demand and supply machinations play no role in influencing production output as well as service delivery.
Both schools of thought also fail to put into consideration the fact that poverty (and, therefore, the definition of what constitutes human development) is relative.
This could be attributed to the fact that both Rostow and Marx grew up, and developed their models from a developed-country perspective. Marx’s native Germany, for example, was an advocate of capitalistic models of development, and adopted the same. Rostow wrote in the United States whilst Marx grew up in Germany- though he later moved to the United Kingdom. As such their arguments had been influenced by the societies that shaped their thinking.
Furthermore Rostow and Marx did not only view capital within the prism of material resources: Human beings were also considered significant capital (as seen from the term human resource) in both economic emancipation models; capitalism and communism.
