The
Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) would like to dispel reports being propagated by
some individuals on social media, suggesting that there is water contamination
in Area 51, Area 18, some parts of Area 25 and Kawale.
The
Board carried out a water quality assessment in the said Areas to verify the
reports, and found that there is no any water contamination. Lilongwe Water
Board would therefore like to assure its customers that such reports have no
basis and are not correct.
LWB
would further like to urge the general public to desist from creating such
false reports as they only create public panic and disorder.
The
Board has in place well established social media forums and a website through
which customers and the general public can report and access any information
concerning its operations, water supply updates and other water related issues.
Customers are, therefore, urged to always verify any water related issue or report
with the Board through its well-established 24/7 Customer Call-Centre by
calling 253 for free.
Meanwhile,
LWB would like to assure its customers that it will continue to supply them
with water of acceptable quality which is produced based on internationally accepted
drinking water quality standards.
LWB
adopted standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Malawi Bureau Standards-MS
214. The Board guarantees total compliance to these standards to assure supply
of potable water to its customers at all times.
